This week, a global summit focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) will take place at Bletchley Park in the UK, with expectations high for Elon Musk’s attendance. World leaders and AI experts, including US Vice President Kamala Harris and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, are scheduled to discuss the potential risks associated with artificial intelligence.
Musk has expressed concerns about the risks associated with AI in the past and present, while also being a proponent of carefully regulating AI development. In recent years, the world’s richest man has warned that advanced AI could become an existential threat if not properly controlled, publicly stating the need for proactive regulation around testing and deploying AI systems to ensure they remain safe and beneficial.
Other important individuals attending the summit include Sam Altman from Open AI and Nick Clegg from Meta, alongside Yoshua Bengio, one of the pioneers in AI, who has confirmed his participation.
Following Thursday’s event, the UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is set to engage in a live interview with Musk, which Sunak has publicized on Musk’s platform X, formerly known as Twitter, stating: “In conversation with Elon Musk. After the AI Safety Summit. Thursday night on X.”
