Accenture & Mujin Launch Joint Venture to Combine Robotics Technologies

Accenture, a leading global strategy and consulting firm with a growing focus on digital engineering and manufacturing services through its Industry X division, has teamed up with Mujin, a Tokyo-based innovator in industrial robotics known for its advanced automation solutions. Together, they’ve launched a joint venture named Accenture Alpha Automation, aiming to revolutionize the manufacturing and logistics sectors with cutting-edge industrial robotics solutions.

Accenture Alpha Automation, which began operations on January 15, 2024, is a testament to the companies’ shared vision for enhancing the capabilities of industrial robotics in the global market. The venture, headquartered in Tokyo, is majority-owned by Accenture at 70%, with Mujin holding a 30% stake. This collaboration signifies a strategic move to leverage Mujin’s expertise in industrial robotics alongside Accenture’s prowess in digital transformation and manufacturing services.

The joint venture focuses on providing comprehensive services in consulting, conceptualization, and system integration of industrial robotics, aiming to address the growing demand for automation in manufacturing and logistics. This move is part of Accenture’s broader strategy to expand its footprint in the robotics integration space, highlighted by its previous acquisitions, including Pollux and Eclipse Automation, which have bolstered its capabilities in deploying industrial robotics and automation technologies across various industries.

Mujin, recognized for its innovative MujinController platform that enables autonomous and reliable operation of industrial robots, further solidifies the venture’s foundation with its technical expertise and recent funding achievements. The partnership not only enhances the industrial robotics landscape but also positions Accenture Alpha Automation as a pivotal player in driving the integration and application of robotics technologies in critical sectors, reinforcing Japan’s status as a robotics powerhouse.

This collaboration between Accenture and Mujin through Accenture Alpha Automation underscores the increasing importance of industrial robotics in achieving operational efficiency and innovation in manufacturing and logistics, setting a new benchmark for the industry’s future.

“Manufacturing is the cornerstone of Japanese industry. Driving sophistication and efficiency in manufacturing and the logistics that support manufacturing is essential for Japan’s further growth.

By teaming with Mujin, a leader in robotics technology, Accenture will be able to help our clients take advantage of AI and robotics to connect data throughout the manufacturing and logistics value chain, further contributing to the data-driven transformation of Japan’s important manufacturing and logistics industries.”

Atsushi Egawa, Accenture lead for business in Japan.

“Our mission is to make industrial robots intelligent and easy to use so they can improve productivity and quality and help create new value in an aging society.

The new joint venture, which builds on our agreement with Accenture, will utilize our robot automation technology to drive a paradigm shift in the manufacturing and logistics industry and bring new value to customers first in Japan, then around the world.”
