Riley Tomasek, the mind behind Dexa, shared the journey this week from a personal frustration to revolutionizing content search through a partnership with Huberman Lab and a $6 million seed funding round. Tomasek’s quest began with a struggle to find specific advice within a Huberman Lab podcast episode, leading to the creation of an app that soared in popularity, showcasing the demand for a more efficient way to access expert insights trapped in podcasts and videos. Dexa, born from this viral moment, is an AI-driven search engine specializing in unlocking expert advice from various content forms, now serving 50,000 monthly users and answering nearly 1 million queries.
This new venture gained significant momentum with an exclusive partnership with Huberman Lab, aiming to make scientific knowledge on health and performance easily accessible.
“From the beginning, our mission has been to expand access to zero-cost information about science and science-related tools for mental health, physical health, and performance,” said Andrew Huberman, Ph.D., noting the alignment of goals between Dexa and Huberman Lab.
The recent $6 million seed funding round, co-led by Abstract Ventures and The General Partnership, underscores the industry’s recognition of Dexa’s potential to redefine online search.
“The way that we search for things online hasn’t changed in the last 20 years despite the fact that the kind of content we’re consuming has evolved significantly,” said Ramtin Naimi, Founder & General Partner of Abstract Ventures.
Dexa is poised for growth, with plans to expand its engineering team and enhance product development. Looking ahead, Dexa aims to extend beyond podcast search to include video, further broadening its impact on how people access and interact with expert content online.
