Founded in 2014 by Ahti Heinla and Skype co-founder Janus Friis, Starship Technologies recently announced securing $90 million in new funding, spearheaded by Plural and Iconical.
The San Francisco-based enterprise, initially envisioned to create robots for Mars exploration, has since pivoted to become a leading name in autonomous robot delivery services. With operations across 80 locations globally, including the US, UK, Germany, Denmark, Estonia, and Finland, Starship has successfully completed over six million deliveries.
The company’s robots, known for their efficiency, can operate for 18 hours on a single charge — using no more energy than it takes to boil a kettle for one cup of tea. This innovative delivery solution aims to revolutionize last-mile delivery, a segment known for its high costs and carbon footprint, which is only set to grow in the coming years. With this latest investment, Starship Technologies is poised to expand its footprint and further reduce carbon emissions, having already saved 1.8 million kilograms of CO2.
