Google has committed €25 million ($26.98 million) to boost AI skills across Europe, targeting social enterprises and nonprofits to facilitate training access.
“Research shows that the benefits of AI could exacerbate existing inequalities — especially in terms of economic security and employment,” said Adrian Brown, executive director of the Centre for Public Impact, which is collaborating with Google in managing the nonprofit program. “This new program will help people across Europe develop their knowledge, skills and confidence around AI, ensuring that no one is left behind,” he continued.
Alongside, it plans to host “growth academies” for AI-utilizing companies and has made its AI online courses available in 18 languages.
Additionally, Google announced a $1 billion investment in a new data centre near London, situated in Waltham Cross, to support the rising demand for internet services in the region. This data centre, on a site Google acquired in 2020, underscores its expanding infrastructure efforts in Europe.
