Earlier this month, Jeremy Hunt, the Chancellor, committed £100 million to The Alan Turing Institute, supporting its strategy to address major societal issues through data science and AI.
This investment, provided by UK Research and Innovation via the EPSRC, aims to advance research in environmental sustainability, health, defence, and security, while fostering a fair digital society.
The funding will enhance the UK’s AI leadership, expand data science skills, and encourage public dialogue on technology’s benefits and risks. The Turing Institute’s new direction emphasizes groundbreaking research to tackle challenges like climate change and national wellbeing, with a vision shared by newly appointed Directors of Science and Innovation.
