NVIDIA’s CEO, Jensen Huang, has revealed to CNBC that their latest AI processor, Blackwell, is set to cost between $30,000 and $40,000. Highlighted by the AI Insider yesterday, it is positioned to meet the growing demand for AI applications like ChatGPT. Blackwell’s pricing, it should be noted, aligns with its predecessor, the H100, marking a consistent price range for NVIDIA’s high-end AI chips.
“We had to invent some new technology to make it possible,” said Huang as he held the processor in his hand. Huang estimated NVIDIA’s research and development investment at around $10 billion.
This launch continues NVIDIA’s trend of biennially introducing more advanced, efficient AI chips, driving significant sales increases since the AI surge in late 2022. Notably, companies like Meta are investing heavily in NVIDIA’s AI technology, highlighting its pivotal role in AI development. Huang emphasized the investment in Blackwell extends beyond the chip itself, encompassing data center integration and design. With the introduction of different Blackwell configurations, NVIDIA aims to cater to various needs, underscoring the flexibility and strategic pricing models based on purchase volume and distribution channels.
