AMD Unleashes AI-Powered Chips, Igniting Battle for Booming AI PC Market

On Tuesday, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) announced its latest Ryzen Pro processors, designed to advance the capabilities of AI-enabled PCs, intensifying the competition with NVIDIA and Intel in the AI PC market. These new chips, specifically the Ryzen Pro 8040 series for laptops and the Ryzen Pro 8000 series for desktops, leverage cutting-edge 4-nanometer technology.

AMD, which outsources chip production to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), positions these processors as the most potent yet for business PCs. They are scheduled to feature in HP and Lenovo PC models starting from the second quarter of 2024.

This launch follows AMD’s January announcement of the Ryzen 8000G series desktop processors, which also use the 4-nanometer process and are designed for high-demand tasks like gaming and content creation.

The development underscores the growing importance of AI in personal computing, further highlighted by the AI boom triggered by ChatGPT’s launch in November 2022. Both AMD and Intel have emphasized that AI PCs represent a transformative phase in the industry.
