Scale AI CEO Says Company’s Data Engine Generates ‘Nearly All the Data Necessary to Fuel’ Leading AI Models

In an exclusive interview for CNBC’s ‘Closing Bell Overtime,’ Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang described the critical role this company plays in powering the latest advances in artificial intelligence. The company, which recently announced a $1 billion funding round at a valuation close to $14 billion.

“Our data engine generates nearly all the data necessary to fuel the leading large language models in the industry today,” said Wang, while adding that that Scale AI is the “trusted data foundry for AI.”

According to Wang, Scale AI supplies core data to major AI players such as OpenAI, Microsoft, Meta, and even the US Army. And as the AI industry continues to explode, Wang mentioned the need to make sure there is not a bottleneck somewhere in the AI supply chain is top of mind.

“Our mission, our goal is to build the data foundry to increase the means of production, basically increase the capacity of the overall AI supply chain to ensure data doesn’t become one of those bottlenecks,” he said.

Looking ahead, Wang outlined three key principles guiding Scale AI’s approach to AI data: data abundance, frontier data, and measurement and evaluation.

“We need to make sure we’re continuing to produce data that is sufficiently complex and sufficiently advanced that’s able to actually push the boundaries of current AI capabilities towards complex reasoning, agents, multimodality, multilinguality and more,” he explained.

Uniquely positioned at the core of AI breakthroughs, Scale AI is all set to fight battles associated with data and speed up work in the area of development of high-level AI systems capable of complex reasoning, multimodality, and multilinguality. The insights of Wang underline the pivotal role to be played by high-quality data in unlocking the full potential in the realization of success.
