Humans Adapting Alongside AI Says Psychologist & Neuroscientist Charan Ranganath

Charan Ranganath and Lex Fridman recently discussed human evolution alongside AI, calling attention to the need for ethical guidelines and responsible development.

“I think a lot of the problems that come up with technology aren’t the technology itself as much as the fact that people adapt to the technology in maladaptive ways,” said Ranganath.

Ranganath stressed that the main challenge lies in how humans adapt to and integrate AI, rather than the technology itself, saying that humans are currently far more creative than generative AI.

“One of my fears about AI is not what AI will do but what people will do,” he said.

On the problem of AI’s limitations in replicating human creativity, Ranganath urges us to nurture our unique potential. He also believes we must design AI systems to enhance human experiences and well-being, stressing the symbiotic relationship between humans and AI.
