Hedra, an AI video creation platform founded by former employees of NVIDIA, Google, and the Metaverse, has raised $10 million in seed funding, attracting attention in the AI industry. The funding round included investors such as Index Ventures, Abstract, and A16Z Speedrun.
In this round, Hedra introduced its video-focused foundational model, Character-1, which has been previewed by researchers since June and is claimed to be the fastest video foundational model available. So far, over 350,000 users have created more than 1.6 million videos using Character-1, with many going viral on platforms like Reddit and Instagram. Hedra highlights its ability to generate AI pop stars and related content, while continuously improving safety and content moderation.
Moving forward, Hedra plans to enhance the platform’s multimodal capabilities by integrating storytelling, sound, and video generation into a unified workflow, allowing for greater customization of digital personas and characters.
Character-1 is one of several recent video generation models. Other notable launches include Haiper1.5 in March, RunwayML’s Gen-3Alpha in July, and Luma AI’s Dream Machine in June. Additionally, the video platform Captions secured $60 million in Series C funding in July. Major players like OpenAI and Google are also developing AI-driven video creation tools, with OpenAI’s Sora and Google’s Veo among the latest advancements in this space.
