Read.cv, a professional social media platform launched in 2021 by former Facebook and Mozilla product designer Andy Chung, has been acquired by Perplexity, an AI-powered search engine. As part of the acquisition, Read.cv will cease operations, allowing users to export their data until May 16, with “.cv” domains transitioning to Hello.cv starting January 31.
Read.cv, known for enabling professionals to share resumes, connect with peers, and build personal websites, garnered attention for its sleek design and user-friendly features. The platform also offered tools for organizations to post job listings and manage team profiles. Despite its innovative approach, Read.cv’s journey comes to an end with this acquisition.
In a statement, Read.cv expressed enthusiasm about joining Perplexity, emphasizing their shared mission of making knowledge accessible. Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas highlighted the value of Read.cv’s team in designing and building consumer experiences, calling it an exciting addition to Perplexity’s efforts.
The acquisition aligns with Perplexity’s broader strategy to enhance corporate-focused AI functionalities. Having raised over $500 million with a valuation of $9 billion, Perplexity has pursued strategic growth, including previous acquisitions of Carbon and Spellwise. The integration of Read.cv underscores Perplexity’s commitment to expanding its capabilities in both AI and user-centric experiences.
