BigBear.ai (NYSE: BBAI) has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) to enhance its Virtual Anticipation Network (VANE) prototype, an AI-powered intelligence tool designed to analyze media from foreign adversaries. The initiative aims to improve threat assessment capabilities by using custom AI models to detect trends and emerging risks in global media.
Developed in partnership with the Irregular Warfare Technical Support Directorate (IWTSD), VANE aggregates vast datasets to provide predictive insights for national security. The platform has achieved “awardable” status on the CDAO Tradewinds Solutions Marketplace, marking a transition from research to operational prototype. The contract outlines a deployment strategy within CDAO’s Advana environment, enabling broad accessibility across Combatant Commands.
Ryan Legge, President of National Security at BigBear.ai, described the contract as a pivotal step in modernizing defense intelligence. He stated that advancing VANE’s AI capabilities will provide military decision-makers with real-time insights, ensuring a strategic advantage in global security operations.
