xAI Introduces Grok 3, Claiming AI Superiority Over OpenAI and DeepSeek

xAI, the artificial intelligence startup founded by Elon Musk, has introduced Grok 3, its latest AI model, asserting its capability to surpass competitors such as OpenAI and China’s DeepSeek. In a live demonstration streamed on Musk’s social media platform, X, the team emphasized Grok 3’s significant advancements in math, science, and coding. Musk stated that the model represents an order-of-magnitude improvement over Grok 2 in a remarkably short timeframe.

The company also launched Deep Search, which Musk described as a next-generation search engine. Grok 3 will initially be available to premium X subscribers in the U.S., with additional access through a separate subscription for web and app users.

Speaking at The World Governments Summit in Dubai, Musk described the model as “scary smart”, highlighting its ability to reason and reflect on mistakes. He claimed that Grok 3 outperformed existing models in xAI’s internal tests and received top ratings in Chatbot Arena’s blind evaluations.

Musk acknowledged that Grok 3 remains in beta, assuring that improvements will be rolled out rapidly. He noted that voice assistance capabilities for the model would be introduced at a later stage.

xAI’s AI race intensifies amid global competition

Founded in 2023, xAI competes in the high-stakes AI market alongside OpenAI’s ChatGPT and emerging challengers like DeepSeek. In response to DeepSeek’s claim that its open-source AI rivaled OpenAI’s most advanced models using fewer resources, Musk’s team announced that xAI has doubled its GPU cluster, utilizing 200,000 Nvidia GPUs for Grok 3’s training.

The announcement comes amid Musk’s ongoing feud with OpenAI, a company he co-founded in 2015 before parting ways. In a recent move, Musk led an unsuccessful $97.4 billion bid to acquire OpenAI’s nonprofit parent. Meanwhile, U.S. restrictions on Nvidia’s AI chips have complicated China’s AI development, raising questions about the future balance of AI power.

As AI competition intensifies, Musk reaffirmed xAI’s commitment to pushing technological boundaries, promising continuous enhancements to Grok 3’s capabilities.
