Helsinki-based AI weather technology company Skyfora has raised €4 million in a funding round led by Danish VC firm Ugly Duckling Ventures and Dutch-based LUMO Labs, with participation from Voima Ventures and the EIC Fund. The investment will support the expansion of Skyfora’s Telecom GNSS Meteorology solution and its entry into key markets.
Skyfora specializes in AI-driven weather intelligence, utilizing its patented technology to transform existing telecom infrastructure into weather sensors, generating high-resolution atmospheric data without additional hardware investments. CEO Fredrik Borgström emphasized the growing need for precise forecasting amid climate change, stating that Skyfora’s technology provides continuous, first-party weather data that enhances AI-driven models and creates new revenue opportunities for mobile network operators.
LUMO Labs partner Linn-Cecilie Linnemann highlighted that Skyfora’s focus on climate resilience aligns with the firm’s commitment to sustainable innovation, while Ugly Duckling Ventures’ General Partner Andreas Green Rasmussen noted that Skyfora’s use of first-party data makes it a standout player in AI-driven decision-making. The EIC Fund, represented by Chair Svetoslava Georgieva, underscored the potential of Skyfora’s technology to save lives and mitigate financial risks.
This funding follows previous support from the European Space Agency, EIC Accelerator, and Business Finland. Skyfora’s AI-powered weather intelligence is already benefiting industries such as disaster response, aviation, insurance, and renewable energy, positioning the company as a key innovator in climate-focused AI solutions.
