IBM has announced the launch of its latest mainframe system, the IBM z17, engineered to accelerate enterprise AI adoption across over 250 use cases, including generative AI and intelligent agents. Powered by the new Telum II processor and set for general availability on June 18, the z17 delivers a 50% increase in AI inference processing over its predecessor.
Tina Tarquinio, IBM VP of Product Management for IBM Z, said the system was designed with long-term AI flexibility in mind. “We’re purposely building in AI agility,” she noted, emphasizing built-in support for up to 96 Spyre AI accelerator chips and significantly improved energy efficiency.
