Generative AI Drives Read AI’s Growth in Simplifying Communication for Fortune 500 Companies

Seattle-based Read AI is rapidly emerging as a leader in enterprise productivity software, harnessing generative AI to streamline how organizations manage meetings, emails and messaging. Founded in 2021 by David Shim, Rob Williams and Elliott Waldron, the company aims to automate the mundane and centralize communication insights across platforms like Zoom, Slack, Outlook, and Gmail.

Initially launched to measure engagement and sentiment in video meetings, Read has since evolved into a robust “copilot everywhere” that offers automated summaries, action items, and Q&A from meetings, inboxes, and team chats. Its Productivity AI seamlessly integrates with tools like HubSpot, Slack, and Microsoft Teams, enabling users to make faster decisions with fewer meetings and emails.

Read’s vision and execution are attracting serious traction. The startup is adding 100,000 accounts weekly and serves 75% of the Fortune 500 — without spending on marketing. In 2023, the company raised $21 million in a funding round, followed just six months later by a $50 million Series B led by Smash Capital, with participation from existing investors Madrona Venture Group and Goodwater. Total funding now stands at $81 million.

CEO David Shim attributes the company’s growth to a viral adoption model, where individual users experience immediate value and bring the tool into their teams. With about 40 employees and plans to double headcount, Read is racing ahead in a crowded field that includes both tech giants and emerging players like Otter and Fathom.

Read, then, is building the foundation to be a defining force in the AI productivity wave.
