OpenAI is in advanced discussions to acquire Windsurf, the AI-powered coding platform formerly known as Codeium, in a deal that could be valued at approximately $3 billion, according to a report by Bloomberg News. If completed, the acquisition would mark OpenAI’s largest to date.
The terms have not been finalized, and sources noted that the deal could still fall through. Windsurf previously raised $150 million in a funding round led by General Catalyst, which valued the company at $1.25 billion.
Neither OpenAI nor Windsurf responded to requests for comment. The move reflects OpenAI’s broader strategy to expand its ecosystem of AI tools, following its acquisition of Rockset to bolster enterprise infrastructure.
