Visa has unveiled a sweeping new initiative aimed at integrating AI-powered agents into everyday commerce by enabling them to transact on behalf of consumers. Announced at a tech event in Washington, D.C., the project brings together leading AI developers — including OpenAI, Microsoft, Anthropic, Perplexity, and Mistral — to link their chatbots with Visa’s global payments infrastructure.
Jack Forestell, Visa’s chief product and strategy officer, said the collaboration could prove “transformational,” likening its potential impact to the rise of e-commerce. By combining AI assistants with Visa’s trusted network, the company hopes to automate routine purchases while giving users full control over spending. Pilot programs are now underway, with broader rollouts planned for 2025.
