$1.7M Seed Funding Powers Grouphug Mission to Infuse Private Chats With AI-Generated Humor

Berlin-based startup Grouphug has emerged from partial stealth with a $1.7 million pre-seed round to launch its first product — a generative AI app that transforms WhatsApp group chats into personalized memes. Backed by BlueYard Capital, Tiny VC, Charles Songhurst, Atlantic Labs, and others, the app offers a playful gateway into a broader vision: unlocking value from private group chats using generative AI.

Co-founded by Felix Petersen, Joseph Djenandji, and Matthew Balazsi, Grouphug aims to tap into the rich, often overlooked data within closed messaging ecosystems. Petersen said the company believes it has “cracked AI humor” and teased future plans to build a platform that reimagines how group chat content is used and shared.
