The Albanian government has approved an €8.8 million investment in Machine Thinking Lab, the AI startup founded by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati. The decision, announced as part of the country’s first 2025 budget revision, positions Albania as an emerging player in advanced technology and AI innovation.
Funds will be distributed via the Ministry of Economy, Culture and Innovation through the Albanian Investment Corporation, using resources managed by the Seized Assets Administration Agency. Officials say the move reflects both economic opportunity and a strategic shift in national policy toward high-impact innovation. Prime Minister Edi Rama emphasized that Albania intends to play a direct role in shaping global AI progress through public-private collaboration.
