Glacier Attracts $16M Backing to Develop Next-Generation Robotics for Sustainable Recycling

Glacier, the AI-powered robotics company revolutionizing material recovery facilities (MRFs), announced it has raised $16 million to accelerate deployment of its compact, cost-effective robotic systems across major U.S. markets. The new investment follows a $7.7 million round in 2024 led by Amazon’s Climate Pledge Fund and includes participation from New Enterprise Associates and other climate-focused backers.

Founded in 2019, Glacier is addressing critical challenges in recycling with intelligent automation that improves sorting precision, reduces contamination, and boosts operational efficiency. CEO Rebecca Hu-Thrams said customer demand is growing amid rising regulatory pressure and labor shortages. Glacier’s robots — already adopted by Recology in Seattle — can identify over 30 material types and perform 45 picks per minute, offering both real-time insights and long-term value to recycling operators.
