Firecrawl Sets $1M Budget to Hire AI Agents — and Their Human Creators

Y Combinator-backed startup Firecrawl has launched a bold new initiative to recruit AI agents — alongside the humans who design them. Founder Caleb Peffer confirmed the company has allocated $1 million toward hiring a mix of autonomous AI workers and their human counterparts to build, manage, and refine them.

Firecrawl, which offers a web crawling tool optimized for LLMs, is now advertising three AI-only roles: a content creation agent, a customer support agent, and a junior developer agent. Each position offers $5,000/month and is designed for AI systems that can operate with near-complete autonomy — creating blog content, handling tickets, or writing code.

Peffer said the goal isn’t to replace humans but to empower them, envisioning a future where top engineers orchestrate fleets of AI agents.
