Google Commits $150M to Warby Parker for Android XR Smart Glasses Collaboration

At Google I/O 2025, Google announced a strategic partnership with Warby Parker to co-develop AI-powered smart glasses built on Android XR. As part of the deal, Google will invest up to $150 million in the eyewear company, with an initial $75 million already committed to product development and commercialization. An additional $75 million will be invested pending milestone achievements, giving Google an equity stake in Warby Parker.

The collaboration aims to integrate multimodal Gemini AI and AR capabilities into prescription and non-prescription eyewear. Both companies plan to launch their first product line after 2025. Google is also working with Samsung and Gentle Monster, positioning itself to compete with Meta’s successful Ray-Ban smart glasses strategy.
