SpAItial, a new AI startup founded by renowned 3D visual computing expert Matthias Niessner, has raised a $13 million seed round to develop foundation models that generate fully interactive 3D environments from text prompts. The round was led by Earlybird Venture Capital, with participation from Speedinvest and high-profile angels.
Niessner, who previously co-founded Synthesia and now leads SpAItial after taking leave from the Technical University of Munich, is joined by Ricardo Martin-Brualla (formerly Google’s 3D telepresence team) and David Novotny (ex-Meta). SpAItial’s mission is to build photorealistic, dynamic virtual worlds where users can not only generate environments but also interact with them — bringing video game-like interactivity to real-world applications through AI.
