Meta is reorganizing its artificial intelligence division into two distinct units to accelerate development and better compete in the race for generative AI leadership, according to a report from Axios. The company will now split its AI talent between a consumer-focused AI Products team and a foundational research unit called AGI Foundations. No job cuts have been reported as part of the restructuring.
The AI Products team will drive innovation across Meta’s core platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and the new standalone Meta AI app. AGI Foundations will focus on advancing Meta’s Llama models and long-term artificial general intelligence research.
As rivals like OpenAI and Google push forward, Meta continues its strategic shift to remain a key player in the evolving AI landscape.
