Snowflake to Acquire Crunchy Data, Expanding AI-Ready Database Capabilities with Postgres Integration

Snowflake has announced its intent to acquire Crunchy Data, a leading provider of enterprise support for PostgreSQL, as it accelerates efforts to power AI agent workloads with scalable, open-source data infrastructure. The deal, estimated by a source familiar with the matter at around $250 million, is expected to underpin the launch of Snowflake Postgres — an enterprise-grade Postgres service within the Snowflake AI Data Cloud.

Vivek Raghunathan, SVP of Engineering at Snowflake, said the announcement underscored why Snowflake is becoming the ultimate destination for enterprise data and AI needs. He noted that the integration would support a $350 billion market opportunity and respond to growing customer demand to incorporate Postgres into the Snowflake ecosystem.

Crunchy Data’s tools and partnerships with clients like UPS and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will be incorporated into Snowflake’s offering, with a private preview of Snowflake Postgres expected soon.
