Ilya Sutskever Assumes CEO Role at Safe Superintelligence Following Daniel Gross’ Exit

Safe Superintelligence, the AI startup launched in 2024 by OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever, has named Sutskever as its new CEO following the departure of co-founder Daniel Gross. The leadership shift, effective June 29, also elevates co-founder Daniel Levy to president.

The announcement comes amid reports that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg had explored acquiring Safe Superintelligence and recruiting both Gross and Nat Friedman. Valued at $32 billion, the company has drawn significant attention for its singular focus on building safe superintelligent systems.

Sutskever emphasized that the company remains independent and committed to its mission. With its core team and computing resources in place, Safe Superintelligence will continue its trajectory as a specialized lab dedicated solely to safe AI development.
