YouTube will implement an update to its Partner Program policies on July 15, aiming to restrict monetization for what it classifies as “inauthentic” content. The move targets mass-produced and repetitive videos, which have proliferated due to the rise of generative AI tools.
While the updated policy language has yet to be published, YouTube says the changes will clarify longstanding rules requiring original and authentic uploads. The platform maintains that reaction videos and content using clips won’t be affected.
The update reflects mounting concern over AI-generated spam — voiceovers layered on stock footage, deepfakes, and AI-created news impersonations — which are flooding the platform. As generative AI scales, YouTube is moving to protect the quality and credibility of its ecosystem by limiting monetization for low-effort automated content.
