Anthropic, the AI research company behind the Claude large language model family, is reportedly finalizing a funding round of up to $5 billion, which would push its valuation to approximately $170 billion, according to Bloomberg. The round is being led by Iconiq Capital, with additional participation potentially coming from sovereign wealth funds including Qatar Investment Authority and GIC of Singapore.
If completed, the raise would nearly triple Anthropic’s valuation from its previous mark of $61.5 billion in March, when it closed a $3.5 billion round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners. The company continues to secure substantial capital to keep pace with the soaring costs of AI model training, compute infrastructure, and product deployment at scale.
Despite concerns voiced internally about accepting capital from authoritarian-linked investors, Anthropic remains focused on expanding its leadership in safety-aligned AI systems, as competition in the generative AI sector intensifies. The company has not issued an official comment on the reported funding.
