Spotify is preparing to deepen its use of generative AI to transform its user interface into a more conversational and intelligent assistant, according to statements made during the company’s second-quarter earnings call. Following the success of its AI DJ feature, which allows Premium users to make voice requests, Spotify now sees potential for AI to reason over user history and respond more dynamically.
Chief Product and Technology Officer Gustav Söderström noted that user interactions through natural language and voice are generating valuable new datasets, enhancing Spotify’s ability to match music and content beyond traditional playlist behavior.
Internally, Spotify is also deploying generative AI to accelerate product development and increase efficiency across business operations. While the company now boasts 276 million paying subscribers and 696 million monthly users, its latest quarter reflected financial headwinds and missed revenue targets. Still, Spotify is positioning AI as a strategic pillar for innovation across consumer and enterprise functions.
