Spotify Introduces New AI Music Policies and Industry Labeling Standards

Spotify has announced updates to its AI policy, introducing clearer rules on disclosure, spam prevention, and unauthorized voice cloning. The company will adopt the DDEX industry standard for labeling AI use in music credits, ensuring artists, labels, and distributors disclose whether AI was applied in vocals, instrumentation, or post-production.

To address rising concerns about fraudulent uploads, Spotify confirmed it will ban unauthorized AI voice clones and deepfakes, while launching a new spam filter this fall to detect duplicate tracks, SEO manipulation, and mass uploads. The platform is also partnering with distributors to stop fraudulent “profile mismatches” before tracks go live.

The measures reflect Spotify’s strategy to balance responsible AI creativity with stronger protections for artists and listeners as AI-generated music accelerates across the streaming industry.
