Jimmy Donaldson, better known as MrBeast, the top YouTube creator with 634 million followers and $85 million in annual earnings, has voiced concern about how artificial intelligence could impact creators’ livelihoods. Posting on social media, he questioned the long-term effect of AI-generated videos on millions of people who rely on content creation for income, calling the moment “scary times.”
His remarks follow the launch of OpenAI’s Sora 2, a powerful video and audio generator paired with a TikTok-style app that quickly reached №1 on the U.S. App Store. Platforms like YouTube are also embedding AI tools, from editing features to generative video options. While MrBeast himself has previously experimented with AI, including thumbnail generation tools, he faced backlash from fans wary of automation replacing human artistry.
As AI-generated content accelerates, MrBeast’s comments highlight growing unease in the creator economy about whether human creativity can remain central in a landscape increasingly shaped by automated production.
