xAI, the artificial intelligence company founded by Elon Musk, has named Anthony Armstrong, a former Morgan Stanley banker, as its new chief financial officer, according to the Financial Times. Armstrong, who advised Musk during the Twitter acquisition, will now oversee the finances of both xAI and X, which merged earlier this year.
The appointment fills a key leadership gap after former finance head Mike Liberatore left in July. Armstrong joins during a period of significant executive turnover, with Robert Keele, Raghu Rao, and co-founder Igor Babuschkin all departing in recent months, alongside the resignation of Linda Yaccarino as CEO of X.
Armstrong succeeds Mahmoud Reza Banki, who will exit the role as CFO of X, marking another shift in leadership as Musk positions xAI to compete in the rapidly expanding AI sector.
