OpenAI has expanded its low-cost ChatGPT Go subscription, priced under $5, to 16 additional countries across Asia, including Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Pakistan, and the Philippines, where users can now pay in local currencies. The rollout also covers emerging digital markets such as Bangladesh, Cambodia, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, as the company accelerates adoption across the region.
ChatGPT Go offers enhanced daily limits for messaging, image generation, and file uploads, alongside double the memory of the free tier for more personalized responses. The expansion follows rapid growth in Southeast Asia, where OpenAI reports a fourfold increase in weekly active users since launching the plan in India and Indonesia earlier this year.
The move comes amid rising competition with Google, which recently expanded its Gemini AI Plus plan to over 40 countries. OpenAI’s broader strategy — outlined by CEO Sam Altman at Dev Day 2025 — positions ChatGPT as a full AI platform with integrated applications and partnerships, as the company seeks sustainable revenue growth in high-demand international markets.
