Meta Expands AI Editing Capabilities Directly into Instagram Stories

Meta has introduced new AI-powered photo and video editing features within Instagram Stories, enabling users to modify images and clips using simple text prompts. The update moves beyond previous editing options that required interaction with the Meta AI chatbot, bringing powerful generative editing tools directly into the Stories interface to improve accessibility and creative flexibility.

Users can access the new functions through the Restyle menu in Stories, where they can instruct the system to add, remove, or change elements in their media — from altering hair color to inserting entirely new backgrounds. Meta is also offering preset effects that transform outfits, apply artistic styles, or enhance videos with effects such as snow or fire.

The rollout comes as Meta continues expanding its AI offerings across platforms, including recent tests of discussion prompts for comments and the launch of its “Vibes” video feed in the Meta AI app. The company has also added parental controls that allow guardians to manage teens’ interactions with AI features.
