Apple Nears $1B Annual Deal with Google to Integrate Gemini AI into Next-Generation Siri

Apple is reportedly finalizing a $1 billion per year agreement with Google to license a custom version of the Gemini AI model for its upcoming overhaul of Siri, according to Bloomberg. The collaboration would mark a major shift for Apple, which has historically relied on in-house technology but is turning to Google’s advanced AI as a temporary solution while it develops its own large-scale models.

The custom Gemini system, with 1.2 trillion parameters, is significantly more powerful than Apple’s current 150 billion-parameter cloud-based model and will underpin new Siri capabilities and AI-driven features set to debut next spring. Apple reportedly evaluated OpenAI and Anthropic models before selecting Google’s Gemini for the integration.
