Anthropic has launched Claude Code as a beta feature inside Slack, enabling software teams to hand off full coding tasks directly from chat conversations. Available as a research preview, the update expands on Claude’s existing Slack functionality by adding repository access, pull-request generation, and real-time progress updates within message threads. Developers can now summon Claude using @ mentions to convert context from bug reports or feature discussions into actionable coding sessions, without switching out of their primary collaboration environment.
The integration highlights a broader shift in the developer-tools market as AI assistants move beyond traditional IDEs into communication platforms where engineering work is coordinated. With Slack emerging as a strategic hub for agentic automation, Anthropic aims to streamline how teams write and ship software while maintaining human oversight. Security and dependency considerations remain, but the company sees deeper workflow integration as key to the next phase of AI-powered development, ahead of a wider rollout.
