OpenAI has released GPT Image 1.5, a new version of ChatGPT Images that delivers stronger instruction-following, more precise iterative editing, and image generation speeds up to four times faster. The model is rolling out to all ChatGPT users and is also available via the API, marking OpenAI’s first image-model upgrade since GPT Image 1 launched in April.
The update comes as competition intensifies with Google, following rapid gains by Gemini 3 and Nano Banana Pro. Under CEO Sam Altman, OpenAI has accelerated product releases, positioning GPT Image 1.5 as a production-ready tool with granular post-editing controls that preserve visual consistency across changes.
Fidji Simo, OpenAI’s CEO of Applications, confirmed ChatGPT Images now has a dedicated creative workspace in the sidebar, alongside broader visual enhancements across ChatGPT. The launch underscores OpenAI’s push to tighten integration between reasoning models, creative tools, and everyday AI workflows.
