Amazon has appointed longtime AWS executive Peter DeSantis to lead a newly formed artificial intelligence organization, signaling a deeper push into AI infrastructure and model development. The move was announced internally by Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, who said the new group will oversee the company’s AI models, including Nova, alongside silicon development and quantum computing initiatives that underpin AI performance and efficiency.
DeSantis brings 27 years of experience at Amazon, including eight years as a senior vice president at AWS, which remains central to Amazon’s enterprise AI strategy. The new role separates AI leadership from day-to-day cloud operations, allowing tighter coordination across models, custom chips, and cloud infrastructure. The appointment follows Amazon’s recent Nova 2 model launch and comes amid major AI investments, including large-scale infrastructure commitments and strategic backing of Anthropic.
