OpenAI Acqui-Hires Convogo Team to Strengthen AI Cloud Capabilities

OpenAI has acquired the founding team behind Convogo, a business software startup focused on automating leadership assessments and feedback, in its latest acqui-hire aimed at accelerating AI platform development. The company confirmed it is not acquiring Convogo’s intellectual property or product, but is bringing the team on board to support its AI cloud initiatives. Convogo co-founders Matt Cooper, Evan Cater, and Mike Gillett will join OpenAI as part of an all-stock transaction, and Convogo’s product will be wound down.

Founded as a project to streamline executive coaching workflows, Convogo grew to serve thousands of coaches and enterprise leadership development firms. OpenAI said the hire reflects a focus on translating rapid advances in AI models into practical, professional-grade applications. The move marks OpenAI’s ninth acquisition in the past year, underscoring its continued use of M&A to deepen talent and execution capacity across its AI stack.
