Amazon is reportedly in discussions to invest up to $50 billion in OpenAI, as the AI lab seeks as much as $100 billion in new capital that could lift its valuation to roughly $830 billion, according to the Wall Street Journal. The talks are said to be led by Amazon CEO Andy Jassy and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, with the round expected to close by the end of the first quarter.
OpenAI has also been engaging sovereign wealth funds in the Middle East, while holding parallel discussions with Nvidia, Microsoft, and SoftBank, according to the New York Times. A potential Amazon deal would be notable given its deep partnership with Anthropic, underscoring intensifying competition and capital concentration across the AI ecosystem.
