Uber Eats has introduced Cart Assistant, an artificial intelligence–powered grocery shopping feature designed to help users quickly build and customize their baskets inside the app. The beta tool allows customers to enter a shopping list or upload images such as handwritten notes or recipe screenshots, after which the AI automatically adds relevant items from a selected grocery store.
The feature uses prior order history to prioritize familiar products and personalize recommendations. According to Praveen Neppalli Naga, Uber’s Chief Technology Officer, the tool is intended to reduce friction between planning a grocery trip and completing checkout.
The launch reflects growing competition in AI-powered commerce experiences, following similar chatbot and recommendation tools developed by Instacart, DoorDash, and integrations between delivery platforms and ChatGPT, as companies expand AI capabilities across consumer ordering and merchant services.
