Reddit Tests AI Shopping Search Tool Combining Community Recommendations With E-Commerce

Reddit announced it is testing a new artificial intelligence–powered search feature that connects community discussions with purchasable products from shopping and advertising partners. The pilot, rolling out to a limited group of U.S. users, displays interactive product carousels with pricing, images, and direct purchase links alongside search results.

The tool surfaces items frequently recommended in posts and comments, enabling users to explore products mentioned in discussions and navigate to retailers for transactions. The initiative builds on Reddit’s existing Dynamic Product Adsoffering and reflects the company’s strategy to merge social discovery with commerce. CEO Steve Huffman has highlighted AI search as a major growth opportunity, citing strong increases in search engagement and adoption of the platform’s AI-driven features.
