NVIDIA Signals End of Strategic Investments in OpenAI and Anthropic Ahead of Anticipated IPOs

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang indicated that the company’s recent investments in OpenAI and Anthropic are likely to be its final equity commitments to the two leading AI labs, citing the expectation that both companies may go public later this year. Huang made the remarks during the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference in San Francisco.

Huang said Nvidia’s investment strategy has focused on strengthening the broader AI ecosystem rather than pursuing financial returns alone. The company already supplies the advanced chips that power large-scale AI systems developed by both OpenAI and Anthropic.

Nvidia recently participated in OpenAI’s $110 billion funding round with a $30 billion investment, a figure lower than earlier discussions of a larger commitment.

The company’s relationship with Anthropic has also drawn attention following comments from CEO Dario Amodeicriticizing the sale of high-performance AI chips to certain international buyers. Recent geopolitical developments and policy disputes surrounding AI use in defense have added further complexity to partnerships across the rapidly evolving AI ecosystem.
