City Detect, a startup using computer vision and artificial intelligence to help municipalities monitor infrastructure and urban conditions, has raised $13 million in Series A funding led by Prudence Venture Capital, with participation from Zeal Capital Partners, Knoll Ventures, and Las Olas Venture Capital. The financing brings the company’s total funding to $15 million since its launch in 2021.
Founded by Gavin Baum-Blake, who now serves as CEO, the company develops AI-powered monitoring systems designed to help local governments detect and respond to urban issues such as graffiti, illegal dumping, litter, and structural building damage. The system operates by mounting cameras on public service vehicles such as garbage trucks and street sweepers, capturing images of surrounding buildings and streets as they travel through neighborhoods.
The collected imagery is analyzed using computer vision models that identify signs of urban decay or infrastructure problems, allowing municipalities to respond more quickly to maintenance issues. City Detect said the platform can process thousands of building observations per week, significantly exceeding the capacity of manual inspections traditionally performed by city staff.
The company currently operates in 17 cities, including Dallas and Miami, and said the new funding will support hiring engineers, expanding storm-damage detection capabilities, and scaling deployments across additional U.S. municipalities.
