Fusion energy startup Helion is reportedly in early discussions to supply power to OpenAI, signaling a potential alignment between next-generation energy production and large-scale artificial intelligence infrastructure. Both companies are backed by Sam Altman, who has been closely linked to Helion’s development.
The proposed agreement could allocate a portion of Helion’s future energy output to OpenAI, reflecting the growing demand for high-capacity, reliable power to support AI systems. Helion is pursuing an alternative fusion approach that converts energy directly into electricity using magnetic systems, rather than traditional heat-based methods.
The company is currently advancing its Polaris prototype as it works toward commercial-scale deployment. If successful, the partnership would position fusion energy as a key enabler of future AI compute expansion.
