Insider Brief
- Andromeda is expanding its elder care robotics platform Abi into the U.S. and has opened a waitlist for assisted living providers as it targets workforce shortages and resident isolation.
- Abi is designed as a social companion robot focused on conversation and engagement, with deployments in Australia supporting care staff by shifting time toward clinical tasks.
- The U.S. rollout reflects growing demand for technology-driven support in elder care as facilities face staffing constraints and increasing rates of loneliness among older adults.
Andromeda announced it is expanding into the United States and has opened a waitlist for assisted living providers interested in deploying its social robot, Abi. The Australian elder care robotics company markets Abi as a complementary tool for care teams, particularly where staffing constraints limit the time available for individual interaction with residents.
According to Andromeda, Abi is designed as a social companion rather than a task-oriented robot, focusing on conversation, group engagement and interaction with residents. The system supports more than 90 languages, retains conversational context and is intended to provide consistent social interaction in both one-on-one and group settings, according to Andromeda.
The company indicated the move comes as the U.S. elder care system faces structural challenges, including low wages for care workers and persistent staffing gaps that have put pressure on care facilities. At the same time, a growing share of older Americans report chronic loneliness, creating demand for new approaches to social support in care environments.
In Australia, the company said Abi has logged more than 3,500 hours of use across elder care facilities and is commercially deployed. Care providers have used the system to support resident engagement, while allowing staff to focus on clinical and physical care tasks.
The U.S. expansion reflects what the company described as increasing openness among care providers to adopt new technologies to address workforce shortages and improve quality of life for residents. The waitlist is aimed at assisted living operators seeking early access to the system as Andromeda begins its U.S. rollout.
Founded in 2022 by robotics engineer Grace Brown, Andromeda Robotics raised $3 million in a seed round in June 2025 led by Purpose Ventures, following $1 million in pre-seed funding from Galileo Ventures in late 2023.
