OpenAI has introduced a Child Safety Blueprint aimed at strengthening U.S. protections against AI-enabled child exploitation, as concerns grow over the misuse of generative technologies. Developed in collaboration with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and the Attorney General Alliance, with input from Jeff Jackson and Derek Brown, the initiative focuses on improving detection, reporting, and investigation processes.
The blueprint responds to a rise in AI-generated abuse content, with data from the Internet Watch Foundation indicating more than 8,000 cases identified in the first half of 2025. OpenAI outlined plans to support updated legislation covering AI-generated material, enhance reporting pipelines to law enforcement, and integrate preventative safeguards directly into AI systems.
The move comes amid increased regulatory scrutiny and builds on OpenAI’s broader efforts to implement stricter protections for younger users.
