Google and Intel have announced an expanded multiyear partnership to strengthen AI infrastructure across Google Cloud, deepening collaboration on processors and data center technologies. Under the agreement, Google Cloud will continue deploying Intel’s Xeon processors, including the latest Xeon 6 chips, to support AI workloads, cloud computing, and inference tasks.
The companies will also advance joint development of infrastructure processing units (IPUs), specialised chips designed to offload data center operations from CPUs and improve efficiency. This collaboration, which began in 2021, is focused on building custom ASIC-based IPUs tailored for large-scale AI systems.
Led by Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan, the partnership reflects growing industry demand for balanced AI infrastructure, where CPUs and supporting systems play a critical role alongside GPUs in scaling modern AI workloads.
